This 2019-2020 Curling Season, LPCC is launching a pilot Youth Curling Program. Building on the LPCC mission to provide community members with the opportunity to learn the safe, healthy, sociable, and fun winter sport of curling, we thought this would be a great opportunities for kids too. The sportsmanship and etiquette, along with strategy, scoring and active sport are compelling for anyone, especially developing youth.
The LPCC will provide the building, equipment, instruction and facilities for youth curling.
We anticipate a program designed for kids ages 8-12 years old, with junior coaches, ages 13-16. LPCC will provide qualified Members for onsight instruction and coaching at the Civic Center.
The Youth Curling Program is expected to run from late October through mid November with 7 Sessions, including an Awards Ceremony on the final day.
Highlights of the Youth Curling Program will include:
- Orientation to the sport of curling (objective, scoring, positions, etiquette & sportsmanship)
- Focus on grip, release and sweeping technique
- Review balance and delivery (add focus on proper alignment)
- Tournament & Awards Ceremony (closest to the button and sweeping form)
We are looking forward to this new initiative, and have exciting engagement from the community as we offer youth programming. We’ll look forward to your feedback.
More to come!
