Lake Placid Curling Club Raises $1,260 for Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation during LP 40th Anniversary of Olympics
On Saturday, February 15th, the Lake Placid Curling Club (LPCC) sponsored a curling exhibition on Mirror Lake in Lake Placid as part of the 40th Anniversary of the 1980 Olympics events. The event was held to teach interested members of the community and visitors how to throw a curling stone; a donation of $5 to throw three stones was requested, with all proceeds going to the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation. Over a three-hour period, on a cold but sunny day, more than 10 volunteers from the LPCC put in more than 25 hours of time and instructed 127 curlers of all ages on the sport, raising $635 for the Scott Hamilton Foundation. Following the event, an anonymous donor from the community announced a match of that amount, bringing the total amount raised to $1,270. The LPCC hopes to present the check to Mr. Hamilton this week.
